Building height limits in Boston go into effect.

January 1, 1892

Authorized by the Massachusetts legislature in 1891, the regulations establishes a 125-foot limit for all new downtown buildings. Extensions, such as steeples and cupolas, are not included, except for the spires of churches. Height limits for specific areas are adopted in 1895,* 1898.* The downtown height limit is increased to 155 feet in 1923. Buildings are allowed to exceed that limit in 1928.*
